The transcript from the YouTube video titled "How to HIDE an AQUASCAPE BIOFALLS like a PRO!" by Columbia Water Gardens.

This video, by Carl from Columbia Water Gardens, explains how to properly naturalize and hide an Aquascape Biofalls filter so it blends seamlessly into the landscape.

Summary of Hiding an Aquascape Biofalls

1. Components of the Biofalls (Signature Series 2500)

  • Settling Chamber: The bottom chamber where fish waste and pond waste settle [00:00:24].
  • Filter Pads: Two thick filter pads sit on a tray above the settling chamber, offering a large surface area for beneficial bacteria colonization [00:00:39].
    • Pro Tip: Replace pads when they shrink, causing water to go around them instead of through them [00:01:02].
  • Spillway Tray: The tray is reversed to allow the spillway stones to be placed close to the Biofalls and to provide a lip for holding down the rock tray [00:01:28].
  • Rock/Plant Tray: A tray designed to be planted or covered with rocks to hide the plastic unit [00:01:41].

2. Naturalizing the Unit (Hiding the Plastic)

  • Soil Placement: Bring the surrounding soil right up to the edge of the Biofalls unit [00:02:20].
  • Staging Rocks: Stage rough material (rocks) close to the Biofalls [00:02:29].
  • Placing Stones: Place larger stones randomly along the lip of the unit, occasionally using a larger stone to overlap the edge[00:02:35].
  • Foaming to Secure and Seal: Use waterfall foam(like an economy foam gun) to foam in all the cracks and lock the rocks in place [00:04:49].
    • Purpose of Foam: The foam prevents dirt from finding its way over into the Biofalls [00:04:49].
  • Final Camouflage: Once the foam is dry, take dirt and cover it right up to the edge of the stones to completely naturalize the waterfall filter into the landscape [00:06:48].

3. Maintenance Tip

  • Rock Tray Stays: The rock tray itself never needs to come out for cleaning. The filter pads can be simply squeezed and pulled out through the opening [00:06:33].
