Pond Repair Services for Redlands, CA Water Features

Complete pond repair services in Redlands, CA include liner repairs, pump replacements, filtration system fixes, and structural restoration work to extend the life and performance of your water feature.

What Are Common Pond Repair Needs?

Common pond repairs include liner leaks, pump failures, cracked hardscaping, clogged filters, and damaged plumbing that disrupt water flow and ecosystem health.

Liner leaks often result from punctures, UV degradation, or settling. Water loss accelerates and stresses fish and plants. Pumps fail due to worn impellers, clogged intakes, or electrical issues, stopping circulation and filtration. Cracked rock work or shifting edging allows water to escape and creates safety hazards.

Clogged or damaged filters reduce water clarity and increase ammonia levels. Plumbing leaks waste water and can undermine pond structure. Identifying problems early prevents cascading damage and costly overhauls.

How Are Liner Leaks Repaired?

Liner leaks are repaired by draining the pond, locating the damage, cleaning the area, and applying patches or sealant designed for underwater use.

Small punctures and tears can be patched with EPDM or PVC repair kits. The damaged section is cleaned and dried, adhesive is applied, and a patch is pressed firmly over the leak. Larger damage may require liner replacement in that section or across the entire pond.

Once repairs are complete, the pond is refilled and the ecosystem is carefully reestablished. Fish and plants are reintroduced gradually to avoid shock. Proper repair techniques restore pond function and prevent recurring leaks.

Homeowners near Redlands can also rely on pond repair services for similar liner and structural restoration expertise.

When Should Pumps Be Replaced?

Pumps should be replaced when they fail to maintain flow, make unusual noises, overheat, or consume excessive energy despite cleaning and minor repairs.

Signs of pump decline include reduced water movement, grinding sounds, or frequent circuit breaker trips. Age and usage also matter. Most pond pumps last three to seven years depending on quality and maintenance. Upgrading to energy-efficient models can reduce operating costs and improve performance.

Professional replacement ensures correct sizing and installation. A properly matched pump restores circulation, supports filtration, and extends the life of other system components.

What Structural Issues Affect Redlands Ponds?

Redlands' clay-rich soil and seasonal settling can shift pond edges, crack hardscaping, and stress liners, requiring vigilant inspection and timely structural repairs.

Clay expands and contracts with moisture changes, causing movement around pond perimeters. This can displace rocks, create gaps in edging, and pull liners away from anchoring points. Regular inspection identifies early signs of settling before major damage occurs.

Reinforcing edges with compacted gravel, additional rock work, or liner adjustments stabilizes the structure. Addressing soil movement promptly prevents water loss and maintains the pond's visual appeal and safety.

Columbia Water Gardens offers expert pond repair throughout Redlands, from liner patching to pump replacement and structural reinforcement. We restore water features to full function and beauty. Begin your repair project by calling 888-713-7771.

It’s that time of year for Spring Cleaning again! Every year our staff at Columbia Water Gardens goes to work in the Spring cleaning ponds and waterfalls. Why do we choose to do this in early Spring? There are many great reasons, but overall, we have found that performing a spring cleaning this time of year has been met with great success. Here’s what’s happening in your pond right now. The biology is very slow due to the cold water. That means all the sludge and winter decomposition from leaves and other organic matter isn’t being consumed by beneficial bacteria. This sludge is a food source for algae. The kind of algae that creates “pea soup” water conditions and string algae. Algae is also less active in cold water – just like your ecosystem. Large plants are not consuming nutrient, algae (a plant) is not consuming nutrient, it’s all very quiet. Then, like it always happens every year, we have a couple of cold snaps and spring weather is on us in Southern California. This happens like clockwork somewhere in the middle of February. This spring weather warms up your pond and wakes up your ecosystem fast. Your ecosystem is hungry, and the more nutrient there is in the pond, the faster your plants grow. All of them, including algae. So, why do we clean the ponds before this happens? It’s simple. Cleaning the pond removes the food source for the algae, thereby starving it out. Here’s how this happens… As the larger plants like water lilies and other plants wake up for the spring they are hungry with a larger appetite than algae, and they consume the tiny bit of nutrient that’s left after the cleaning, thereby eating more food than algae can. This is great for your pond’s health, the entire ecosystem, and of course your koi. Maintaining optimum water quality this time of year gives you the upper hand for the rest of the year. Finally, deferred maintenance creates a greater problem, it costs more to clean, and puts your pets at risk. And if your pond was cleaned since July of last year, it still needs a spring cleaning. Getting in the habit of having us clean your pond in the spring is the best thing you can do for your pond. Here’s what we do: Columbia Water Gardens will provide the following 14 point service: 1.
